Drunk doctors choking on vomit, husband shot in the chest yet again, prostitute cut up at the hands of her brother/pimp, and a suicide attempt gone wrong. Just another day at The Big Free!

Doctor Elizabeth Roberts is a surgical intern trying to make it in a world where female surgeons are not exactly the top of the pick. But as luck would have it, she ends up at Tulane hospital in New Orleans. Bullied by the staff, hit on by the male residents, heckled by the patients, and put through the ringer for every choice she has ever made, Elizabeth sets out to prove that she can be the best surgeon possible and that she deserves a place in the medical world. This book is full of heart, heat, and a real look inside of the hospital world that only someone with real medical insight and experience can offer and sets out to answer the age old question, "What have you done for the good of mankind today?"

I gave this book 4 stars because there was a lot of sexual references in less than 50 pages. about 6 to be exact as well as throughout the whole book. The book in and of itself was a very raw look inside the medical world and what it takes to make it. It elicits sympathy for doctors and surgeons alike and helps you appreciate the work they do just to become a medical professional. I would read this book over and over again just for the laughs and the tears that come with it. Martha B. Boone did an AMAZING job! I definitely will be reading this book over and over!
